After a (busy) decade, I've updated my LinkedIn presence
I filled in a lot of the blank spots below. Enjoy! (Or not, that's fine too - ha!)

I am host/producer of “The Paula Gordon Show: Conversations with People at the Leading Edge”(sm). Begun in 1996 as regional radio and subsequently distributed internationally by CNN, it debuted as internet audio in ’98 and video in 2006. For the past decade, I've written for HuffingtonPost and, alongside my executive producer/husband Bill Russell, produce ‘BerleyTimes from our eco-restoration home in Kimberley, BC, where we've lived since 2011 (a much longer story).
From the late ‘80s, we two have consulted with major corporations facing profound demographic and technological challenges (based in Atlanta, GA), having sold our award-winning regional video/film production company, "Straight Furrow Productions".
I hosted WMAQ-TV/NBC's “Small World”, an Emmy® nominated weekly half-hour celebration of Chicago’s multi-ethnic communities from ‘77 to ’81, having entered broadcasting via PBS where I produced and hosted nationally distributed television programming.
An undergraduate government major, my Masters is in radio-television-mass communications from Indiana University. My service on national Boards includes Oberlin College President (Marvin Krislov)’s Advisory Council and (for 15 years) as a Trustee for the Interdenominational Theological Center comprised of six predominantly African-American denominations.

EXCELLENT resource on our existentially threatening climate crisis, Dan, thanks for being so patient - your "particular" response is helpful well beyond the current circumstances calling ALL who might need further "guidance" into the reality of What's Happening (here in B.C. it is wildfires/drought/heat domes...which are becoming the new normal. Oh, and as for "disruption"! Today, May 20th, it's supposed to freeze this week, surely a death knell for the promise of pears, and delaying any "planting" beyond hopes for local "food security". Need I add "Attention Must Be Paid"? Thanks again.,

As always, Dear Norman, delighted that you are in The Club ... 75 is a FINE Club, so glad you joined it! And again, you were a HIGHLIGHT of the "50th" - I think often of our scaring the dinner crowd with rowdy laughter (ok, so Scott Schillin was a ROWD, too, ALSO good). Here's to All Good Things for you and yours!

As Dascomb's "head waiter" my sophomore year working there, you, dear Carl, taught me a LOT...trust you're persevering. It was some years ago we briefly reunited at a (presumably "cluster") reunion and I've thought fondly of you in the intervening years. New Mexico seems a GREAT place to live! Be well, glad you've joined this thingy.

Getting even briefly -- though intensely -- acquainted with (Dr.) Nell greatly enhanced the 50th reunion for me. Sad as I am to learn of her death, I am completely confident in your (Dr.) John strength in carrying forward her loving spirit. Know that many share my hopes for peace in the knowledge of your lifetime together. Condolences and best wishes, Paula

“America needs Oberlin.”* It has since 1833. Now, during a global pandemic with a deeply challenged economic system seemingly trapped amidst climate emergencies everywhere, higher education itself is in crisis. Existential moments abound. The responsibility of Oberlin’s President and Trustees is to assure Oberlin survives with its mission intact.

I’m a lifelong union member, activist and pragmatist, as well a proud Oberlin Alumna. And I am confident Oberlin’s current union negotiations are built on its historic and current, demonstrable commitment to “...justice for all”. Labor as well as Learning. Especially in light of higher education’s struggles with new realities, with the entire landscape shifting under it, collective bargaining by all parties requires constructive intent and civility... charting new terrain, energized by possibility.

While I am fiercely opposed to neoliberalism’s “fiscal fundamentalism” (money über alles), in solidarity with both the union and Oberlin, I’m asking my family and friends to celebrate my upcoming birthday with a financial contribution of any size to “One Oberlin”. Then urgently refocus on America’s existential moment: kick the Republican Party into the dustbin of history on November 3rd.

   * My own opinion, informed by this quote from President Carmen Ambar, recorded in Conversation with Paula Gordon (OC ’68) October, 2017.

Celebrating with you as we did last summer (albeit late) when it was so good to re-connect!

I support Oberlin College, including my financial support, as it wrestles with economic realities in the interest of its longterm survival. Our astute Board of Trustees (made up almost entirely of Alumni) hired President Ambar, among a plethora of reasons, to accomplish this daunting task.

As a lifelong Union member, I strongly support the College in finding the most humane, responsible, equitable and socially responsible results possible under the current circumstances. Positive responses to President Ambar’s forthrightness, transparency and clarity -- all of which I applaud -- are more productive than threats of punitive measures against Alma Mater.

My support is far from uncritical. I have both been in the vortex of institutional change (Class of 1968) which resulted in major improvements to the institution, and feel part of the widespread support within the institution (including alumni) for the groundbreaking “One Oberlin” initiative which knowingly addressed the significant financial implications.

As President Ambar stated clearly in her February 18, 2020 communication to alumni, addressing the College’s unsustainable structural deficit already has already affected faculty, administrative staff, and retirement/health benefits for all. Given that 63% of the College’s annual budget pays people, how could anyone be surprised that compensation for service sector employees (including dining and custodial services) is part of the mix? It is noteworthy (and apparently overlooked) that the College will be negotiating both with the Union AND with potential outside venders.

A desireable result in all these negotiations is a “living document” which can evolve with the times. Others have suggested: present workers not lose anything; current employees have the right to continue in their jobs at the same wages and benefits; that the contract prohibit firing except for the same causes that would have gotten anyone fired by Oberlin; the positions with whatever employers might be used for outsourcing stipulate union membership.

I welcome others joining me in this affirmative approach.
