I knew Leon because he was a regular at Warner on the basketball court in the afternoons. You can learn more about a person in half an hour of basketball than in half a year of going to class with them, and Leon was buena gente. The world will miss him.
I remember Leon from the basketball courts, as well. I also remember (I think correctly) him as a freshman in Burton in a triple with Bernie Mayer and Casl Skold (sp?).
Edit: I see I got it wrong, and it was Chuck Roxin, not Carl Skold. Sorry Chuck.
Leon was a thoughtful, gentle soul. His smile was frequent, sometimes slow, but always genuine. I was in his Freshman section on the top floor of Burton Hall where I tripled with Carl Skold and Richard Boye. I Have thought of him several times over the years. Miss him.
Leon, Chuck Roxin and I were roommates in section 3C of Burton Freshman year. I have very fond memories of him from that time although I have no contact with him since we graduated.
I remember Leon vividly. I was his freshman room mate along with Bernie.
He was intense. Quiet. He was clearly finding a path. His recently posted picture with a smile brought tears.
He didn't smile as a freshman. Living a long life is a blessing. I often share stories about Leon with friends and family when they a life lesson is appropriate.
He is one of so many people I was glad to have known.
Hat's off to you Leon. Saddened to learn of your death. Thanks for organizing Holbrook House senior year. Thanks to your efforts Robert Gruetter, Tom Drake, and Laird Hastay were among my housemates, and serendipitously, Steve Elliott, Aaron Levin, and Rusty Beatty were our next door neighbors. All have remained life-long friends. I can't begin to thank you enough, Leon.
