David, I recall my geology 101 class - the lecture hall, the whispers about plate tectonics, field trips to collect trilobites on the banks of Ohio streams. It was one of the few non-major courses in which I received an A. My term paper focused on the Pleistocene geology of Long Island. I recall rummaging around for glacial erratics on the moraines near Roslyn and Lake Ronkonkoma (a tarn). So, I remained a closet "geology lover" all my life. Now, on the edge of the Colorado Plateau, I can pursue my hidden interest with zest on every hike around Sedona. And to think that I exited Oberlin a Russian major....What was the focus of your research and teaching, David?
I think you are the only member of our class who is a National Academy of Sciences member. You are listed in the end of the caption on page 23 of the current Oberlin Alumni Magazine.
