Living in Birmingham Al since 1977. This was not the plan. We Yankees had planned to be here for 3 or 4 years while I got my career started, and then back up North somewhere. Turns out I landed in a terrific department in the Medical school here; just retired after 40 years. The downside is living in the land of Roy Moore etc; the far right conservative nature of many down here is almost enough to drive re-consideration of moving North. But Birmingham is a great city, and the University and Medical School provide diversity of views and cultural background to keep us engaged.
