Carol Kaimowitz

Immediately after graduating, I left on a Fulbright to study music in Salzburg, Austria. I spent four wonderful years and graduated from the Mozarteum with diplomas in voice, opera and Lieder interpretation. While in school, I sang in the Wiener Kammeroper and gave recitals. I returned to the US and dove into the NY music scene keeping very busy doing small opera productions, church work and recitals. I was always ambivalent about a music career. I worked briefly for the admin office of the HIV/AIDS center at St. Vicent's Hospital, and eventually decided for international business. I was transferred to Europe in 1979 to work for AIG in London and Vienna and for the Zurich Insurance in Zurich. After 3 1/2 years I returned to Manhattan which has been my home ever since. In 1993, I put my music education back to work and became a full time singer again. Over the next 13 years I gave scores of song recitals in the US and Germany and retired in 2006. I now have a second home in Essex, Connecticut.

I was recently interviewed by Weill Cornell Hospital. The gist of the story was my very successful kidney transplant 6 1/2 years ago and the need for more donors. They were also interested in my background as a singer and my non-profit work.

I entered as a Conservatory student and, after 2 1/2 years, transferred into the College graduating with just enough credits in August '68 - just in time to leave for Europe. I did two, very hot summers in Oberlin and lived without A/C - candles melted in the little apartment I rented. But the Con was cool and my German course was great. The second summer I attended the Republican Convention in Miami as part of the government course I was taking - and I thought Oberlin was hot!
