Jane and I roomed together freshman year.  She was a wonderful roommate who handled the physical aftereffects of polio with deceptive ease and a great sense of humor.

I am so sorry Janie is gone! She was indeed a lovely person. I lived nextdoor in Dascomb freshman year, and Jane was one of the people I will always remember. I would have loved to find out more about her life after Oberlin. Beth Sherman

I was saddened to learn of Jane's passing.  I got to know Jane freshman year when we were in the same section in Dascomb.  We were roommates sophomore year in Fairchild.  Jane was the consummate empathetic listener who undoubtedly helped many friends weather the pressures of Oberlin and negotiate the process of finding our identities.

Jane moved to the San Francisco area after Oberlin.  In 1970 I moved to Berkeley sans job or place to stay.  Jane and her two roommates, both Obies, welcomed me to their apartment where I stayed for a week.

Wherever Jane lived became a social center.  It was at a distinctly unorthodox Seder at her house that my husband Dan and I had our first date, and we're still together.  Jane helped with our wedding preparations by among other things sewing the finishing touches on my wedding dress.  Her boyfriend introduced Dan and me to bird-watching, which I understand from her obituary was also an important activity for Jane.  I was delighted but not surprised to learn that Jane had been involved in conservation causes and had become a photographer of nature's beauty.

Jane was alswya a positive presence on campus.  She helped me get through George Scott's  (do I remember his name coorrectly?) physiology class by generously letting me borrow her lecture notes.

I was sad to read of Jane's death. It is a lovely obituary for a lovely soul. Jane, Jan Edwards (now Alexander) and I  moved that to Berkeley the fall after graduating. We were room-mates during tumultuous times there. Reading about Jane's many interests and talents I am sad we weren't able to stay in touch after those first years.
