I can't remember when I got to know Joe; we were never close friends but we talked and laughed from time to time, and I enjoyed his friendship. At our 45th reunion, I discovered he had suffered a stroke, but he we enjoyed some conversations in spite of it. I enjoyed hearing about his childhood and later return to farming (orchards, cherries, I believe but not sure.) Accepting and preparing for loss is difficult.
